Letter to the editor: Crime rates on the rise in Macedon Ranges
Crime is once again on the rise in the Macedon Ranges region, with the latest figures showing that crime rates have been increasing yearly.
In the Macedon Ranges region, crimes against the person are up by 36.5 percent, instances of property damage are up by 37.8 per cent and arson is up by 15.6 percent.
There have been over 500 more crimes committed in the Macedon Ranges area since the Andrews Labor Government was elected in 2014. That is a 26.45 percent increase in crime.
The local member for the area, Mary-Anne Thomas has consistently been all talk when it comes to rising crime in her electorate, making huge claims that the Labor Party is the only party that will deliver for the community on the issues that matter, one of the issues she cited being community safety.
The statistics from the Victorian Crime Statistics Agency reflect that communities are only becoming more dangerous under the Andrews Labor Government, the exact opposite of what Ms Thomas and The Labor Government claim to be doing.
Mary-Anne Thomas continues to back The Andrew Labor Government’s soft approach to crime, while her electorate becomes more unsafe by the year. The rise in crime that has been seen in the Macedon Ranges region is atrocious and inexcusable. People have the right to feel safe where they live and work.
In Mary-Anne Thomas’ own words, she is “proud of the government’s work in addressing community safety.”
Constantly rising crime rates are no cause for pride. Mary-Anne Thomas would do well to ensure that her government delivers on community safety before making ridiculous claims in the future.
