Letter to the editor: Happy Australia Day from Luke O’Sullivan
As we welcome another Australia Day, we should remember to celebrate openly and with pride. Australia Day is all about enjoying the company of family and friends and celebrating this fantastic place that we call home. After all, we live in the lucky country.
Australia has one of the most beautiful natural landscapes in the world, boasting mountain ranges, rivers and colourful native flora. We are home to sporting legends, academics, creatives and innovators. People of all cultures and backgrounds, with warm and welcoming spirits call Australia home. It is with great pride that I get to call myself Australian.
As well as our landscape and our people, we are also home to some amazing local produce. This Australia Day, I encourage everyone to get into the spirit and celebrate with a barbeque. Throw some prime Mallee lamb from Ouyen on the barbie. Lamb goes best with a nice salad, so toss a salad with some beautiful, fresh lettuce, carrots, tomato and cheese from a range of areas right across Northern Victoria. Don’t forget to get your Vitamin C from some juicy Mildura oranges, too.
I urge everyone to embrace all that it means to be Australian and to have a fantastic day. Amongst all the celebrating, we should also be sure to take care of one another, remembering to be sun safe and road safe this Australia Day. We have so much to be thankful for and so much to celebrate.
Have a happy and safe Australia Day!
